Former CPG Global CPO, Patrick Mitchell, to Lead Saphineia’s Procurement Practice

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Patrick Mitchell to our team as a Senior Procurement Advisor, marking Saphineia’s expansion into the procurement consulting area.

For Food & Beverage manufacturers, ingredients and packaging materials are, collectively, their largest expense and, one of the largest assets on the balance sheet. As such, this is a manufacturer’s biggest risk – and improvement opportunity.

Experience

Pat, who will lead Saphineia’s procurement practice, brings over 30+ years of practical CPG Procurement and Supply Chain experience from iconic branded manufacturers such as Mars Inc., Wm. Wrigley Jr. & Company and the Kellogg Company. Over the past 8 years Pat worked as a Sr. Procurement Advisor to several AAA global consulting firms and as Interim-CPO for Bonduelle Fresh Americas, a leading North American producer of fresh-prepared salads and fresh cut vegetables.

At Saphineia, we pride ourselves on our team’s real-world experience and our ability to collaborate effectively from the C-suite to the shop floor, and Pat fits our business model to a ‘T’.

Highlights

Developing New and Sustaining Procurement Capabilities: Retained by Bonduelle Fresh Americas’ new CEO, Pat led the creation and implementation of Bonduelle’s first procurement operating model framework, while in parallel, developed initiatives that provided immediate relief to the cost inflation and material supply shortages that arose during COVID. Examples for both include supply assurance, price risk management, capability and competency development, and strategy articulation and value capture.

Organizational Development: As Mars’ Global Chief Procurement Officer for Indirect spend, Pat developed and implemented the vision and strategy for Mars’ global procurement operating model, managing ~$8bn of Indirect spend.

Reducing Cost: Pat is credited with creating significant value at each of the companies where he led Procurement through accretive and sustained P&L cost reduction programs. He has implemented category management and developed strategic sourcing programs that benefited each of these companies, incorporating the needs of business users with suppliers and suppliers with their suppliers. At Kellogg, Wrigley, and Mars, Pat created programs which blended absolute price reduction, total cost of material reduction, and direct and upstream supply risk solutions.

Education

Pat received a B.A. in Finance from Indiana University Bloomington and an M.B.A. from DePaul Driehaus College of Business.
